Local South Senior High School student Hannah Olausen has been accused of animal cruelty and downright stupidity because of a recent issue regarding a full grown african tiger, some kelly green paint, and an after school environmental group. "hannah is the type of person to make anything fun" says a close personal friend, when it comes to fun, ms.olausen should rearrange her priorities. The story started out with Olausen taking part in her high schools "green tigers" environmental initiative group. The group meets after school and they have different weeks during the school year in which students may participate in environmentally friendly activities, like biking to school etc.
ms.Olausen being a part of the group wanted to make a difference (like a lot of hipsters do) by being environmentally friendly her friends were helping the earth so much by riding their bikes and only paying attention to car emissions that hannah felt like she had to one up them. Ms.Olausen went to the Minnesota state zoo and lured a tiger out of the cage (because she obviously has the skills to do so, i mean doesnt everyone?)and brought it home. The next morning she woke up, did her regular morning routine, but instead of taking that extra ten minutes to wash her hair (because shes environmentally friendly by saving water)she dyed the fur of her new tiger green.
When ms.Olausen got to school she unbuckled the tiger from the backseat of her car (safety first, you cant ride a bike with a tiger in the back, so much for going green) and she showed her classmates what she had accomplished, needless to say they were exuberant (who wouldnt be excited to see a kelly green colored tiger at 8 in the morning). The school officials didnt think they had enough room for the tiger in the school, so it was sent back to the zoo, but It turned out to be a stunt that most think will last for many years to come.

That Was Some Adventure Huh?
When i was three years old, i went to costa rica for nine weeks. My father was on sabbatical and my sister and i were along for the ride. We were going there so my father could teach sociology to the costa rican students at a community college in monteverde, costa rica. It was my first vacation and i was going out of the country, you could say i was excited but that would be an understatement. The plane ride was long and the farther south we went the hotter it got.
When we arrived we were in awe of the beauty of the island, the people were beautiful, the plants were beautiful, just everything was crystal clear, and magnificent. being a toddler i thought it was a whole different planet, i had asked many questions and i was very curious. We took a bus to Monterverde to the house we were staying in. We were living with a whole family, they owned a cement factory and there was a little girl that lived next door to us that i could play with.
Everything was fantastic, we had a babysitter, but there was one problem...none of the people we lived with spoke english very well. My babysitter didnt speak english at all. we had plenty of VHs tapes and kids shows taped from Tv that i could watch. I was pretty well occupied while my father was at work. one day whilst my father was at work my babysitter decided to rent us a scary movie to watch since my sister and i watched scary kids TV shows, it seemed okay to her. Our babysitter rented "people under the stairs" which is a rated R movie about people that kidnapped children and hid them under the stairs of their house and they are basically crazy cannibals.
when my father got home and saw us watching this movie, horrified he tore us away from the Tv. We were shocked that there were movies like this because i was 3 and my sister was 7. we were used to watching goosebumps and space jam. My father tried to explain why it was wrong but the language barrier kept it from being a very fluid conversation. We all ended up getting along well, but we all needed to learn more about each others languages before we could really be comfortable after that incident. That was some adventure huh?

My group so far has had a rough start on our entire documentary. our trailer went well, but we've hit a couple road blocks, scheduling mix ups and computer problems have led us to fall behind. on the bright side we are all working as a group, we all do our part and we can safely say we have all put our own personal spin on every aspect of our documentary. i think it will turn out great.
in the reading it talked about freedom of speech in cuba...but i think it was more about freedom of speech in general. so many nations are not given the privilege to have free speech such as we do here, and even here we have limits to what the public is allowed to hear. the fact that our own personal thoughts and actions can be censored or the government can scare us enough to make us not even think to say it at all is sad. everyone should be able to say how they feel and express themselves, whether its god or bad, whether or not you are bashing the government or supporting it.. people are scared to know the truth, knowing that those who speak the truth are the loudest and most aggressive people makes it even scarier. limiting the freedom someone has to assess their country and speak freely is a crime against humanity.

My Group has had a very good start to our documentary, we have maybe 1-2 more interviews we are conducting and then we will edit all of our footage and downsize as needed. We have been getting along fairly well, we all began pulling our own weight and we have all had the proper amount of input to our trailer and documentary in general.
In the reading it talks about how the young people in these poor neighborhoods were a product of society, how they had no money not because they were lazy and didn’t want to get jobs but because they were just poor black men and women who had been on the wrong side of the tracks.

So far my groupe has gotten to sending out emails to some of our sources and we have filmed one teacher interview and some student itnerviews. the only problem we have really encountered was my car almost got towed, so we havent had any filming problems. we all work together well and we get the job done. we have an interview this coming week with mr.carter and he is going to tell us about the budget for the arts at south.
The best thing you can do when making a documentary is to reasearch your subjet or your topic as much as you can. you can go ahead on jst curiosity but eventually you will need to know about your topic to go about the filming in a professional manor. you need to research as much as possible when you aren't aware of the topic details. you cant get aenough research done. take note on factsthat seem minute because even the smallest facts can make a big difference in whtetheror not your film is boring or lack luster. sometimes you may not be able to find facts by yourself about the subject, if you cant do so by yourself find a person who knows about it, and talk to other people.

So far my group has filmed about twenty minutes of footage. we have one substantial interview with mrs.meyers the choir teacher. we have set up an interview with mr.carter the band teacher because he knows the most about the budget for the arts at SHS. We plan on interviewing mrs.sadler and representatives from spring board, an arts company in the cities. we havent had any substantial hiccups so far. all three of us work fairly well together and we all have worked hard and been able to put our ideas to good use.
documentaries influence many of todays films. the realness of a documentary can be created in a fictional film to make it seem like its real life. doing so can make the viewer feel like more a part of the story line. i was surprised to read that it is becoming more and more popular to make movies more "real" looking instead of to fabricate the picture. personally i like to watch movies to escape reality rather than feel like im more a part of it. granted, action films and such would be cool to see in such a real picture, the people want an escape, but i guess its all about what sells.

In my group we have started filming as of today. We have scheduled an interview and we are well on our way to getting our trailor squared away. we have had to go back and forth mtn to get equipment. we have now learned, when in doubt, just check out all equipment necessary. our ideas are cohesive and we are all working well together. i just hope we can stay on task. as of right now the way we are going about things is pretty smooth. i cant say we wont run into more problems but so far everything is going fine.
artists are the first to make things evident to those around them. they think outside the box, they pay close attention to things that are note worthy. what surprised me is that you can play off of sarcasm or just setting a neutral tone (playing off of the audiences intelligence). to get people to watch my documentary i would probably think to be as aware of their feelings as possible. There are many ways you can go about making a documentary. you can always apply your creative flare but know that not everyone see's things as you do.
